Have you noticed all of the changes on King Street lately? It seems like there is an exciting new storefront opening up nearly every weekend. For me, one of the best things about Old Town living is the hustle and bustle of King Street and the ability to shop local for just about everything. While it’s always sad to see a favorite store close (Am I the only one who misses Moto Foto? I loved the Easter portraits with real bunnies!), it’s thrilling to see new businesses come to our little corner of the world. Whether it’s a chain like Anthropologie, or one of the new small businesses that have recently opened, there are a lot of new faces in town. Now that the weather is nice, why not take a stroll from the King Street metro to the water and …

Young Life in an Old Town: Dollin’ It Up Opens on S. Columbus

Mini manicures, pedicures, facials and birthday parties for little girls.

Parents who are looking for the ultimate in over the top birthday fun for their daughters who love pink will no longer have to drive to the suburbs. Dollin’ It Up, a spa for girls ages 3 to 14, has been open in Lorton since 2010, and has opened a second location in Old Town. Situated across the street from the Red Barn Mercantile near the bustling intersection of Columbus and King streets, it’s hard to miss the bright pink and green lettering on the storefront. Dollin’ It Up offers little girl versions of spa manicures, pedicures, facials and hair services as well as birthday party packages. I held my daughters 9th birthday party at Dollin It Up in Alexandria. It was NOT a good experience. Don't be fooled by the cute appearance of the 'spa' entry, its all down hill after you walk in the door. The staff were not engaging and at times down right rude to the girls.
