Alexandria Police Officers to Aid With Inauguration Security

Police from Alexandria, Fairfax County and other areas are sending officers to help with 2013 Presidential Inauguration security.

With hundreds of thousands of people flooding Washington for the 2013 Presidential Inauguration Jan. 21, law enforcement agencies from Northern Virginia—including Alexandria—are chipping in to help with security in the nation's capital. A contingent from Alexandria, made up of 21 police officers and 18 sheriffs deputies, will be helping. In preparation for the inauguration, the Northern Virginia Hazardous Material Teams will receive STARS satellite radios purchased by the state and issued to the teams, according to Cheryl Lee of the VDEM Grants Management Office. First Responders Graduate from Alexandria Crisis Intervention Team

A group of 17 police officers, sheriff's deputies, and a probation and parole officer graduated Aug. 5.

A group of first responders and corrections officers last week graduated from a Crisis Intervention Team class at the Alexandria Detention Center. Seventeen police officers, sheriff’s deputies and a probation and parole officer graduated Aug. 5 as part of the sixth Crisis Intervention Team.  The team was developed in partnership with the city’s Community and Human Services Department, the Police Department and the Alexandria Sheriff’s Office to help improve staff interactions with the mentally ill or people who experience substance abuse disorders.
