Walking Trail Construction Scheduled for Founders Park

Part of the pathway is getting a new surface made of gravel and recycled tires.

Founders Park is getting a new pathway surface installed in January. The city's Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities Department is scheduled to install a new path surface on a portion of the walking trail at Founders Park. About 180 feet of existing stone dust pathway will be resurfaced with a permeable surface maked of gravel and recycled tires. The new path is expected to be stable, water permeable and handicap accessible as well as less prone to erosion. The work is weather dependent and scheduled to occur between Jan. 7 and Jan. 25. Work areas will be closed to the public but the park will remain open.

As a 12-year resident of Alexandria, she has played part in many of the local juried…

Supporters of Founders Dog Park attended the first Martinis for Mutts fundraiser on Friday night.

FoundersDogPark.com, composed of seven dog-owning, park board members and more than 100 park users, had its first annual fundraising event Friday evening, Martinis for Mutts. The group formed last year after several concerned Founders Park dog goers discovered that the city had been approached to remove the dog exercise area at the park's northwest corner. The event, hosted at the Old Dominion Boat Club, was organized to raise funds to help maintain the existing dog park as well as create several new amenities for humans and canine alike. Having had the honor of attending, I must say the evening was fabulous, topped off with a silent auction that included a vacation in the south of France and a lovely trip to New Orleans. With the support …
