Hopkins House Receives Generous Donation

The $500,000 from the Moores of Herndon will be used to upgrade and expand facilities in Old Town and Fairfax and possibly build a new preschool in Herndon.

Hopkins House received a $500,000 donation that will be used to upgrade its preschool building in Old Town, expand enrollment at its preschool academy in Fairfax County and be used to explore the possibility of opening a new preschool in Herndon. Brenda and Mark Moore of Herndon donated the holiday gift. "This is an extraordinary gift from two extraordinarily generous and caring individuals," said Hopkins House President, J. Glenn Hopkins. "This single gift, the largest in the organization's history, will directly impact over 560 children, parents, and educators." Hopkins told Patch that the Old Town preschool will be allocated some of the funds to upgrade its security system “given incidents that happened in places like Connecticut.” It …

Realtors Provide a Christmas for Hopkins House

McEnearney Associates has advocated for preschool since 1990.

Christmas came early Friday morning for preschoolers at Hopkins House of Alexandria. The Old Town preschool was filled with shouts and squeals from young children as they opened one gift each and sat on Santa’s lap. Realtors from McEnearney Associates of Alexandria, who have “adopted” the preschool each year since 1990, choose gifts for each child based on their age and gender. “This very well could be their only gift,” said Elizabeth Lucchesi, a realtor with McEnearney Associates. “It’s what Christmas is all about.” While some parents of children at Hopkins House pay full tuition, others pay based on family income through a city subsidy program, and some children attend on partial or full scholarships.
