Occasionally Cake officially opens new location on King Street.
When Sabrina Campbell saw a "for sale" sign March 2011 in a vacant building in the 200 block of King Street, Campbell said she knew it was the perfect place to open a second location for her cake business in the Old Town Alexandria district. “I peered in the window and thought it looked pretty good,” Campbell, 33, said. “My husband said why not us and why not bring Occasionally Cake to Old Town?” After a year of construction, painting and planning for a second store, Campbell and business partner Marcia Crandall saw their dream reach reality. Owner Sabrina Campbell opens the doors at 207 King Street on Thursday at 11 a.m.
Occasionally Cake is opening its second cake boutique on Thursday. The new 3,200-square-foot store, located at 207 King Street, is staffed by eight employees and features gourmet cupcakes, designer cakes and cake truffles. Additionally, the store will host parties, special events and baking and cake designing classes for kids and adults, as well as a small bakery area with seating, serving cakes by the slice, whoopie pies, cupcake push-pops, oatmeal cream pies, and beverages. The cake shop is open Tuesday through Thursday, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday and Saturday 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Sunday, 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. A full schedule of cake decorating and baking classes will be available in June. Mount Vernon cake shop will open a new store in Old Town this spring.
Mount Vernon cake shop Occasionally Cake will open a new shop in Old Town this spring. The new store will be located on 207 King Street, two blocks from the waterfront. Owner Sabrina Campbell says that the new location has a target opening date of early March 2012. Campbell said she had been thinking of opening a new location for about a year and considered Shirlington and Clarendon as possible locales. Old Town eventually won, because it’s a high pedestrian area and has a different market, said Campbell. “Old Town’s close enough for me to manage the store well, but far away where it’s a new market,” said Campbell.
