TerraCycle, an easy solution for handling difficult to recycle items.
Cookouts, parties, festivals and other outdoor celebrations abound during the summer months. With this increase in summer fun often comes an increase in the waste associated with such festivities. So, what is one to do with all of the juice boxes, drink pouches, snack wrappers, chip bags and other items that are not readily recyclable? Send them to TerraCycle, an organization whose purpose is to “eliminate waste by creating collection and solution systems for anything that today must be sent to a landfill.” Founded in 2001 by Princeton University freshman Tom Szaky, TerraCycle has evolved into a national recycling system for items that were previously unable to be recycled or were difficult to recycle. Thank you for this! I've been trying to find local organizations that I can collect items for. I have known about Terracycle for a while now but they do not publish participating brigades due to privacy concerns. That seems odd to me because don't they and organizations participating in brigades WANT people to save items from the landfill? I wish I could find some place closer to us in Falls …   more ›
