Eve Armstrong gives back to the local animal shelter.
On her birthday last April, Eve Armstrong, daughter of local restaurateurs Cathal and Meshelle Armstrong, decided she didn't want any birthday gifts. "When she turned thirteen, she said to me, 'I want to have a party but I don't want presents," Meshelle Armstrong said. "With her being a 13-year-old girl, Cathal and I were so floored." In lieu of birthday gifts, Eve decided she wanted friends and family to donate to the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria to help the pets in need of forever homes. Eve, the namesake of Restaurant Eve, is a student at St. Louis School in Alexandria and dreams of being a veterinarian. The gifts to the shelter piled in. Meshelle said the gift drive was an "organic" idea. The idea spurred Restaurant Eve's April…

The Washington Post is running the dining guide from restaurant critic Sietsema in the magazine this weekend. President Obama and first lady Michelle Obama dine at Restaurant Eve.
President Obama and first lady Michelle Obama dined at Restaurant Eve in Old Town Alexandria Saturday night to celebrate their wedding anniversary, according to restaurant management, who tweeted the news while the Obamas were dining there. The neighborhood surrounding the restaurant Saturday night was fairly quiet, most likely due to chilly 50-degree weather and a light rain falling. A motorcade of black cars sat outside the restaurant. Other cars and an ambulance sat less than a block away on Prince Street, near the restaurant.
