Fans of the Old Town Theater, built in 1914, will be happy to hear that theater management is turning to 2012 technology to help promote and sell advance tickets for the venue, scheduled to reopen this fall. Theater management posted information and advance sales of tickets on Kickstarter, an online funding platform for creative projects. While many projects on Kickstarter seek funds from contributors with no defined return on investment, backers of the Old Town Theater can be guaranteed tickets correlating to the amount of money they pledge. Rob Kaufman of PMA Properties announced Saturday morning that a local production company will operate the theater as a live performance venue. The building is currently being renovated and Kaufman said more details would be available closer to the renovation’s completion. Building owner Rob Kaufman confirms signs posted on the theater on Saturday morning were not true.
King Street pedestrians were met with a bit of a shock Saturday morning when they passed the vacant Old Town Theater. Signage was posted on the building stating that Hooters—the Atlanta-based restaurant chain known for its fried chicken wings and scantily-clad female wait staff—was coming soon to the property located at 815½ King St. The signage turned out to be nothing more than a hoax. Theater owner Rob Kaufman confirmed to Patch early Saturday afternoon that bringing Hooters girls to King Street is not in his plans. “Someone must have played a joke,” Kaufman wrote in an email, adding that the phony signs were being taken down.
