Public transit patrons donated toys in a collection effort for Community Partners for Children at the King Street Metro
DASH bus and Metro riders donated toys for children at the King Street Metro entrance during the last two weeks. DASH representatives stationed themselves at the Metro entrance, accepting gifts for children and giving out 2GB customized King Street Trolley and DASH USB memory sticks to riders. Milton Rojas of the Bicycle Pro Shop donated a dozen tricycles to the collection effort. The new CEO of the Alexandria Convention and Visitors Association made her first official appearance at its Tourism Marketing Forum on Friday night. Patricia Washington and her staff recognized individuals who contributed to the success of ACVA in 2012 during the annual forum, which was held at Historic Mount Vernon for the third year in a row. System expected to create better customer experience and potentially boost ridership.
Alexandria City Council approved the use of $650,000 in state funds on Tuesday for the purchase of a real-time information system for the DASH bus fleet. The real-time system will offer DASH riders accurate information as to the location of buses and the time buses are expected to arrive at stops. DASH General Manager Sandy Modell said the installation of a real-time information system has proven to boost ridership in other jurisdictions, including a 5 percent increase in Chicago. A 2 percent increase in ridership could earn DASH about $80,000 more annually in fare revenue. Real-time technology takes account of the location of the bus using GPS and traffic patterns to estimate bus arrivals. Riders can access the information on the web or …

Proposed route will connect King Street and Braddock Road Metro stations before heading up Mt. Vernon Avenue.
With more than a half-dozen routes on the drawing board, Alexandriaʼs Department of Transportation and Environmental Services announced Wednesday that it has selected a recommended route for trolley service in Del Ray. The preferred routing for the trolley, revealed at a community meeting Wednesday night at George Washington Middle School, will start at King Street Metro station, head east on King Street, then north on West Street, stopping at the Braddock Road Metro station. From there, the trolley will hop on Braddock Road and head up Mt. Vernon Avenue. The trolley will cross over West Glebe Road, then head east on West Reed Avenue, passing Cora Kelly Recreation Center. I believe that DASH is putting in a NextBus system - just like WMATA, and virtually all of the other agencies have. For some reason Montgomery County Ride-On has built it's own system - seems like a Mickey Mouse system and, from what I hear, it costs them more to keep it running and pay their inflated public sector salaries than to outsource it to a firm like NextBus.
