Scottish Christmas Walk Events Begin Friday

Wednesday is the last day to purchase Scottish Christmas Walk tickets online although they may be purchased on-site after today.

Wednesday is the last day to purchase tickets online for certain events related to the Scottish Christmas Walk weekend and parade. The parade is free and does not require tickets, but several other events do require tickets. Except for the parade and the Designer Tour of Homes, all other events are held at the George Washington Masonic National Memorial. Entrance to the Taste of Scotland Patron Pub and general admission to the Taste of Scotland require tickets for the Friday event. Tickets for the Holiday Home tours in Old Town are also still available. The tour will be held on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The holiday weekend also is offering Deck the Halls with Santa – A Children’s Party on Friday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the memorial…

Boat Parade of Lights Set to Sail the Potomac

Brightly lit sailboats and powerboats light up the Potomac River Saturday, Dec. 1 beginning at 5:15 p.m., culminating a day of holiday events in Old Town Alexandria.

Alexandria’s annual Boat Parade of Lights rings in December when dozens of colorfully lit powerboats and sailboats parade down the Potomac River. On Saturday, Dec. 1, at the new earlier start time of 5:15 p.m, the parade begins, led by Alexandria’s fireboat Vigilant and Washington, D.C.’s fireboat John H. Glenn Jr., named for the former astronaut and U.S. senator. The boats are dressed to impress a panel of judges who will award prizes in a dozen categories including Best in Show, Thinking Outside the Christmas Box and Hardiest Souls. Pre-parade festivities begin at 3 p.m. at the city marina behind the Torpedo Factory and include free photos with Santa Claus for kids and canines plus free hot cocoa and cider. Patsy Ticer to Serve as Grand Marshal of Scottish Walk

Old Town resident and lifetime Alexandrian Patsy Ticer to lead more than 120 Scottish clans, bagpipers and more in Dec. 3 parade.

State Sen. Patsy Ticer will serve as the grand marshal for the Campagna Center’s 41st Annual Scottish Christmas Walk Parade. The parade, which is presented by The Campagna Center, St. Andrew’s Society, the city, and in partnership with the Scottish government, will be held on Saturday, Dec. 3 at 11 a.m. in Old Town Alexandria. "It is a special pleasure for me, as a long time admirer and sometimes participant in an organization which has served Alexandria’s families and children so well since the days when it was still the Alexandria Y, and I was a young mother," said Ticer, an Old Town resident.
