Child Identification Kits Available to Alexandria Families

City professionals are offering child ID kits for Alexandrians on three Saturdays in April.

The Center for Alexandria’s Children in partnership with the Department of Community and Human Services, Alexandria Police Department and Sheriff’s Office, will mark National Child Abuse Prevention month with several events, including offering child identification kits. City professionals will provide families with SafeAssured Child Identification kits from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on three Saturdays in April: SafeAssured kits provide families with information needed by law enforcement and the media to immediately broadcast information unique to a missing child. Police Host SafeAssured Child ID Event

The free service will be held Feb. 2 at police headquarters.

Alexandria’s law enforcement community and other groups are hosting a child identification event for city residents. The Alexandria Police Department in partnership with the Community and Human Services Department, Sheriff’s Office and the Center for Alexandria’s Children will host a SafeAssured Child Identification event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Feb. 2. The event will be held at police headquarters, 3600 Wheeler Ave., in the first floor Community Room. Sheriff's Deputies, Police Recruits Graduate from Training Academy

Deputy graduate Eaddy was vice president of this academy class and four others are pursuing law enforcement careers like their fathers. The police recruits now will complete four months of field training.

Seven new deputies with the Alexandria Sheriff's Office graduated from the Northern Virginia Criminal Justice Training Academy along with 18 Alexandria Police Department recruits. The Dec. 21 graduation ceremony was at George Mason University in Fairfax and for the deputies, it followed nearly six months of deputy and law enforcement training, including emergency vehicle operation, firearms training, defensive tactics, jail and courthouse procedures, crash investigation, basic legal training and other important areas. Alexandria's deputy graduates are Fellman Cabero, Deon Eaddy, Israr Haq, Julio Ocasio, Keith Scott, Ryan Stearns and Curran Thorne. Alexandria Teens Kick Off Operation Sticker Shock

Campaign aims to discourage adults from buying alcohol for minors.

Lauren Sausville was a “beautiful and accomplished” 16-year-old girl until she drove drunk, flipped her father’s Ford Explorer and died instantly. A 27-year-old man had bought her two cases of beer – a catalyst for her death in 2004. Her stepmother, Debbie Sausville, recounted the painful tale at an event over the weekend kicking off Alexandria’s Sticker Shock campaign, a youth-led initiative aiming to prevent adults from purchasing alcohol for minors. Teams of T.C. Williams High School students with adult leaders, including Teneka King from the Sheriff’s Office, traveled throughout the city over the weekend visiting more than 60 stores to place red STOP stickers on beer, wine coolers and other alcoholic beverages. “I know adults who give …
