Art League Gallery Exhibits SOHO Photos

The exhibit of photographs is a special project for 5th grade girls.

The Art League is featuring a special exhibit of photographs taken by this year’s SOHO, or a Space of Her Own, class. The exhibit opens Saturday and runs through Feb. 3 in The Art League Gallery. Space of Her Own Seeks New Mentors

SOHO is a mentorship program designed to empower preteen girls in Alexandria.

The nonprofit Space of Her Own is seeking new mentors for the upcoming school year. Volunteer mentors make a one-year commitment to SOHO, offering guidance and support to participating preteens. Executive Director Hafer announced in a March school newsletter that she’d be retiring in October. “Fifteen years is a long time. It’s time to move on,” she told Patch. Her love for the league carried her from a position as a volunteer there to a job as a gallery assistant and eventually up the stairs to the administrative offices. “I love the energy of this place and the dedication of the people—the students and staff,” said Hafer, who used to create her own art through etchings and printmaking before moving to the …
