Weekend Planner: Restaurant Week, Nats Fest and More

Things to do this weekend (Jan. 24 - 26) in Alexandria and beyond.

Cold temperatures will continue through this weekend under deceptively warm-looking sunny skies. Here are a few ways to warm up this weekend across the metro area. Winter Restaurant Week Continues Where: At more than 50 restaurants across Alexandria. When: Every day through Sunday, Jan. 27. Why go: Restaurant week is a great excuse to go try a restaurant you’ve been meaning to visit. Details and menus from participating restaurants are available here. Price: Most restaurants are offering a $35 dinner for two or a $35 pre-fixe menu. SOHO Photography Project at Art League Gallery Where: The Art League Gallery, 105 N. Historic Homes Tour in Old Town on Saturday

This annual event will benefit the new Twig Surgical Center at Inova Alexandria Hospital.

The 71st annual Historic Alexandria Homes Tour will take place Saturday as a benefit for the Twig Surgical Center at Inova Alexandria Hospital. Alexandria Chef Cathal Armstrong and his wife Meshelle are honorary chairs of this year’s event, scheduled to run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Old Town. Six homes built in the 18th and 19th centuries and rich in the early history of Alexandria will be featured Saturday. Highlights include the famous “Double Dwelling House of Wood” built in 1786 for William Hartshorne, a Quaker Merchant and business partner of George Washington in the Potomac River Company. Washington ordered tools, plants, seeds and farming equipment for Mount Vernon from Hartshorne. At another home, built in 1867, visitors will see a…

As a "TWIG husband" with a little insider information, I can tell you that this year's tour will be one for the record books. The selected homes are amazing (I will get myself in big trouble if i were to disclose which homes are on the tour, so we wont go there.). Also be sure to check out the flower arrangements at each house which were donated by local florists and garden clubs.   more ›
