Join in Alexandria's Hunt for Waldo

Where's Waldo? After all this time, he just might be at a local Old Town establishment.

If you’ve been wondering Where’s Waldo? Now we know – he’s in Alexandria. Waldo is turning 25 this year and to celebrate the bespectacled hero is visiting 20 local shops throughout July. Those who spot him can win prizes, including buttons and books. Waldo figures are showing up at local spots such as Hooray for Books!, Monday's Child, Whistle Stop Hobbies and the Sugar Cube. Anyone who wishes to participate can pick up a "Find Waldo in Alexandria!" search list with the names of all the businesses, and collect an "I Found Waldo at ___________" card for each Waldo they spot. Collecting cards in 16 or more businesses and turning them in at Hooray for Books! gets you a Waldo button and the ablity to compete for other, larger prizes to be …

Young LIfe in an Old Town

Young Life in an Old Town: Shiny New Spaces on King Street

Now that the weather is nice, why not take a stroll from the King Street metro to the water and …

The Sugar Cube Moves Uptown

Candy shop, currently located on N. Lee St., plans to move to upper King St. to expand its party business.

The Sugar Cube has the unenviable task of moving hundreds of pounds of jellybeans within the next couple of months. It’s moving from its location at 210 N. Lee St. to the Upper King Street neighborhood this spring. “It’s an excellent opportunity we couldn’t pass up,” said Kim Theodore, who co-owns the shop with her sister, Alyssa Theodore. The shop’s lease was coming to a close and “we’re looking forward to a place with greater visibility and increased traffic.” The move, the sisters are happy to say, is all about growth. While the shop, which opened up about five years ago, has been a go-to place for truffles, jellied confections and many other treats, something unexpected happened. It began offering classes for kids ages four to 12 as …
