Allen Concedes; Kaine Wins Senate Race in Virginia

Patch will bring you updates throughout Election Day as two former Virginia governors face off for an open Senate seat.

The U.S. Senate race in Virginia lived up to its reputation going into Tuesday's election, as being a tight race between two former governors. Final unofficial results around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday showed Tim Kaine with 51.89 percent of the state vote to Republican challenger George Allen's 47.92 percent of the vote across Virginia. Kaine won by comfortable margins in Northern Virginia jurisdictions, defeating Allen 71.40 percent to 28.42 percent in Falls Church; 60.53 percent to 39.01 percent in Fairfax County; and 65.83 to 33.86 percent in Arlington County, according to the State Board of Elections. Senate Candidate Tim Kaine Raises $2.25 Million from 4,600 Supporters

Former governor began his campaign on April 5.

Democratic Virginia Senate candidate Tim Kaine has raised $2.25 million from more than 4,600 supporters, his campaign announced earlier this week. Kaine, a former governor of Virginia, began his campaign for a U.S. Senate seat being vacated by fellow Democrat, Sen. Jim Webb, on April 5.  "Tim Kaine has laid out an optimistic vision of bringing Virginia answers to help Washington address serious national problems,"  Brandi Hoffine, Kaine campaign press secretary, said in a news release. "We are pleased with how many people are responding to this campaign in its first weeks," she said. Kaine is a tax and spend Democrat. He supports of Obama's policies the same policies that have brought this great country to its knees. Matter of fact, as the head of the DNC Kaine was Obama's little attack dog. As Governor of Virginia he raised taxes and we had a deficit, his spending was out of control and he couldn't manage the job. We need a conservative representing Virginia in the Senate. …   more ›
