Jazz Festival Returns to Waterfront Park

The city is hosting its annual jazz festival in Waterfront Park May 27.

The City of Alexandria is hosting its host 36th annual Memorial Day Jazz Festival May 27, from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Waterfront Park at the foot of Prince Street. If it rains, the festival will be relocated to the Lee Center’s Kauffman Auditorium, 1108 Jefferson St. Admission is free. The performance schedule is as follows: 1 p.m. – The Commodores The Commodores is a specialty unit of the United States Navy Band in Washington, DC, and features 18 of the Navy’s top jazz and big band musicians. 2 p.m. – Al Williams Williams is a four-time WAMMIE Award winner, including Best Jazz Instrumentalist. Al has appeared at many jazz festivals around the world. 3 p.m. – Daniel Ori Ori is a prominent young voice in the New York contemporary jazz scene, …

Old Town Hosts Irish Festival This Weekend

Irish culture, traditions, dance, crafts, music and more will be on display Saturday.

This year's Irish Festival will be held in Old Town's Waterfront Park on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., rain or shine. The event, held by the Potomac River between King and Prince streets, will featuring traditional Irish dance, pipes and drums as well as arts and crafts and food.

Our fees to fund the event continue to increase each year since the City has been increasing the proportion of expenses that we (and other groups) have to cover for community events. City Hosts Outdoor Film Festival in Old Town This Weekend

The city will screen "Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol" and "We Bought a Zoo" starting at dusk, or around 8:30 p.m. The King Street Trolley will operate until midnight on Friday and Saturday.

The City of Alexandria is hosting the free 9th annual Comcast Outdoor Film Festival this weekend at Waterfront Park. On Friday, the city will screen "Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol" and on Saturday "We Bought a Zoo." The movies begin at approximately 8:30 p.m. Popcorn, lemonade and other food items will be available for sale. A portion of the proceeds earned will benefit the local chapter of the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Washington. Viewers may bring blankets or lawn chairs, and coolers and outside food items are welcome. No grilling is allowed. The event will be cancelled if it rains. City Hosts Annual Memorial Day Jazz Festival

The 35th annual festival takes place May 28 at Waterfront Park.

Alexandria will host the 35th Annual Memorial Day Jazz Festival on May 28, from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Waterfront Park, at the bottom of Prince Street. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets or simply sit on the grass. Food, such as barbeque, fried chicken, hot dogs, hamburgers, snow cones and funnel cakes will be for sale, but everyone is welcome to pack a picnic lunch or supper. Grilling, alcoholic beverages, smoking and pets are not allowed at the event.
