Four Courts Four Miler Race to Impact Traffic Saturday

The race will cause some closures in Arlington and along Route 110 Saturday morning.

The Four Courts Four Miler Race will cause some road closures in Arlington's Courthouse area Saturday. Arlington police will close off Wilson Boulevard and sections of northbound Route 110 to allow for the race. The following streets will be impacted: The race kicks off at Ireland's Four Courts Pub, 2051 Wilson Blvd., across from the Courthouse Metro stop. Race attendees are encouraged to use the metro. In addition, street parking in the area will be restricted. Motorists should be on the lookout for temporary “No Parking” signs. Illegally parked vehicles may be ticketed or towed. If your vehicle is towed from a public street, call 703-228-4252.

Red Rocks Expands to Arlington

The pizzeria is opening a new location on Columbia Pike this weekend.

The chef at RedRocks Old Town in Alexandria is moving over to the restaurant’s new location in Arlington, opening this weekend. The new Columbia Pike location is under the supervision of Pizzaiolo Chief Adrian “Angel” Mendoza, who also worked at RedRocks Neapolitan Bistro in Old Town the last three years. He has also worked at 2 Amys in Washington, DC. Genevieve Ahrens will manage the Arlington location’s bar. She has produced signature cocktails for several restaurants in Virginia including Hank's Oyster Bar, Columbia Firehouse and Arlington's Tallula and Eat Bar. The new RedRocks restaurant on Columbia Pike in the Penrose Square development was designed by architect Paul Beckmann of Beckmann Architects, which is based in Old Town …

Crystal City Streetcar Costs Creep Up as Alexandria Looks to Bus, Metro

Arlington, Alexandria originally planned to split the cost of a Route 1 streetcar.

Arlington County's investment in a planned Crystal City streetcar increased Tuesday night as the county copes with its partner, Alexandria, putting its end of the deal on hold. The Arlington County Board voted 4-1 to pay an additional $664,000 to URS Corp. to make up the difference caused by Alexandria's departure, which may or may not be temporary. Board member Libby Garvey, who opposes the Columbia Pike streetcar and spent much of the past week trying to defeat or delay a funding mechanism for major transportation projects, cast the dissenting vote Tuesday. The county's plans call for the eventual connection of the streetcar systems along Columbia Pike and Route 1. But Alexandria's use of a bus rapid transit system along the Route 1 …

It is time for Arlington to bow out of the streetcar fiasco. Democrats in Arlington are so fed up that many are now willing to vote Republican. Conceptually the streetcar seems the way to go. Then factor in that this will bring more development, more people needing housing, more schools, congestion and traffic snarls. Now you can see why Pike neighborhoods hate the streetcar.   more ›
