Fibre Space Moving to New Location

The knitting shop offering yarns, classes and much more is staying in Alexandria.

Fibre space, the popular Old Town Alexandria knitting store, is moving. The shop, currently at 102 N. Fayette St., is moving to 1219 King St. On May 16, fibre space is celebrating its new location featuring treats from its new neighbors - La Fromagerie, Sugar Cube and Olio Tasting Room. The festivities run from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., according to the fibre space blog. The space was formerly occupied by Bizim Collection, which shuttered recently when the owners decided to move to Turkey. Walker Home Wins Window Wonderland Contest

Old Town shop takes top honors for the second year in a row.

For the second year in a row, Walker Home has won the Old Town Boutique District’s Window Wonderland contest, celebrating holiday window décor this season. Shoppers voted online for their favorite window display on the Old Town Boutique District’s website. Second place goes to @Home Real Estate with fibre space taking the honors for third. Old Town Boutiques See Steady Stream of Shoppers

Black Friday sales attract shoppers to specialty stores in Old Town.

The Old Town Boutique District's efforts to market the deep discounts offered by its members paid off as the specialty stores saw a steady stream of customers beginning at 6 a.m. Friday. A line of about 70 people at 8:30 a.m. were patiently waiting outside of fibre space, which had been servicing clients since the early opening hours. Members of the group chatted pleasantly outside, well-bundled in colorful sweaters while exchanged tips on knits and yarns, a store specialty. Christi Furman, who was working the cash register at Hooray for Books! on Friday morning said the children's book store had seen constant customers since the early opening hours.
