I'm from a very rural area in the Northern Neck of Virgina on the Chesapeake Bay. Situated between the Potomac and Rappahannock rivers, farming and fishing are the economic mainstays. Over hundreds of years, sports, family, church, and complaining about the government remain the chief pastimes.

A little idealistic, I moved to Northern Virginia shortly after college determined to fix all that was broken in the federal government... the state government too if only they’d let me. As it turns out, after more than ten years in the area, and a modicum of wisdom gained, it’s local government, filled with altruism yet replete with self-interested dealings, where I’ve found a voice.

Alexandria's charm and vibrancy drew me here. My sanity requires close proximity to the water, I’m quite partial to historic settings, and my urbanism craves convenient shopping and dining. West Old Town was a natural fit. Small town values and big city aspirations reflect the neighborhood's character - and perhaps mine.  I will explore this theme throughout this blog endeavoring to highlight political, social, and historic contradictions along the way. I hope y'all will help!
