ReplyBasically I would like to see the Fish Market, but on the water. I'd like to see a two story casual seafood restaurant / bar. Terraces for having a beer or dinner overlooking the water.

ReplyI am curious about the restaurant. Shoja-Maddahi Seyed Hossein is the same guy that has requested the permitting over and over again for 923 King Street which has sat vacant for at least 6 years. I wonder how these project are interrelated.

The recent Democratic Primary results do suggest there is great support for the waterfront plan. All of the candidates who won the primary, with the exception of Allison Silberberg at this point, openly support the plan (a super majority).

ReplyIf you listen to the constituency and it turns out that Alexandrians generally support the waterfront plan will you support it as their representative or will you choose to push your own political agenda or the agenda of a dissenting grup?

ReplyI believe the city has spent adequate time so far listening to what citizens want at the waterfront. Obviously people want different things and the city has worked to balance that. The city has tried to accommodate dissenting opinions. It's been a compromise and in a compromise no one gets everything they wanted. There are a lot of Alexandrians who support the plan and support those who support the plan (see democratic primary results). Just because the city has not fully changed the plan to meet the requests of a stakeholder group, doesn't mean the city has not listened. In regards to the informal working session with Carr properties, it sure seems like a good opportunity for citizens to review preliminary work and for feedback to be given to developers not just long before construction, but before the developer has even purchased the property, and before any zoning has been changed.

Hi Edgar, yes, you raise good points. No resting on their laurels for either party. About 15,000 people turned out for the last city council election, and about 70,000 turned out for the 2008 presidential election in Alexandria. So, potentially, we could see an increase of votes in the city council election by more than 55,000. That's a lot of new votes that can be influenced.

Sounds like some folks on this message board would be OK bringing prohibition back.
