Black Fire Service Professionals of Alexandria Host Christmas Party for Underprivileged Children

In-need children receive toys and bicycles as part of annual Christmas event.

Alexandria Fire Capt. Thurston McClain and the Black Fire Service Professionals of Alexandria presented their 14th annual “Light Up the Holidays for Underprivileged Children” luncheon Saturday at the Alexandria Hilton Mark Center on Seminary Road.

The event, held in a Hilton ballroom, included a DJ, visit from Santa and the distribution of toys and about 80 bicycles to in-need children.

The Association of African American Financial Advisors also assisted in Saturday’s venture.

Bicycle Pro Shop on Duke Street contributed more than 50 new bikes and tricycles. VeloCity Bicycle Cooperative in Del Ray donated another 30 refurbished bicycles of all sizes.

“There's nothing like seeing a kid truly happy during the holidays,” VeloCity’s Christian Myers said.
