ACPS Superintendent Expected to Leave

Alexandria City Public Schools Superintendent Morton Sherman is expected to leave the school system, several sources tell Patch.

The School Board is holding a special session this evening at 7 p.m.

Tenants and Workers United, a chapter of Virginia New Majority, issued the following statement which it said was "concerning the pending resignation of Sherman."

“Dr. Morton Sherman was the only Alexandria City Superintendent in the past 20 years who addressed the racial achievement gap and inequities in our school system,” said Evelin Urrutia, Education Organizer for Tenants and Workers United. “This year Dr. Sherman has sought to address disparities in disciplinary actions by beginning a pilot Restorative Justice program to resolve problems and keep students in school.”
